Sir, Beguiled by Gideon Rachman’s construct of a political pendulum swinging routinely, impersonally and almost mechanically between ideological poles (“Conservatism overshoots its limits”, October 7), I was stopped in my tracks by his reference to “the excesses of the Keynesian consensus”.
