Harbinger of conflict at New York Times

Two dissident hedge funds sought to ratchet up pressure on the New York Times Company on Friday by formally proposing their own slate of directors for the company’s board.

In a preliminary proxy statement, the hedge funds, Harbinger Capital and Firebrand Partners, told fellow shareholders that the Times’s future depended on “bold” action and “fresh, independent leadership in the boardroom”.
