Psychiatric practices in the City of London have seen a surge in referrals over the past 12 months as more employees in the Square Mile seek advice on coping with stress, anxiety and depression.

And the numbers seeking urgent help could rise still further as the credit crunch takes its toll on the wellbeing of financiers, according to mental health professionals.
