Bernanke spurs rebound in Asian stocks

Fresh hopes of a cut in US interest rates and a strong rally on Wall Street overnight helped Asia-Pacific stocks rebound on Thursday morning, after sharp losses the previous day.

In a letter released on Wednesday, Ben Bernanke, chairman of the Federal Reserve, said the Fed is keeping a close eye on financial markets and is ”prepared to act as needed” if the economy is threatened.
