US slowdown could hit migrant remittances

Mexican migrant workers sent less money home in the first quarter of this year than they did a year ago, according to figures released on Wednesday by the country’s Central Bank.

The decline follows several months in which the remittances have been growing more slowly and underlines Mexico’s potential vulnerability to the economic slow down in the US, far and away the country’s biggest export market and source of foreign investment capital.
