Brown dismisses leadership ‘gossip’

Gordon Brown brushed off speculation about his leadership as “gossip”, as he embarked on a media blitz designed to allay growing public concern about the economy and re-assert his authority.

The prime minister told reporters on Thursday other colleagues were capable of doing his job, and insisted that his decade at the Treasury meant he was “probably” best placed to deal with the downturn.
