Indian states compete for Tata car project

Rival Indian states were queuing up at the weekend to host Tata Motors’ low-cost Nano car project after the company announced it would pull out of West Bengal.

Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are all vying to be named the new location for production of the car, touted as the cheapest in the world. Each is trying to outbid the other with incentives of free land and generous tax breaks.
