MoD gives go-ahead to £4bn carrier project

The Ministry of Defence on Tuesday gave the go-ahead for two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy, a move that safeguards some 10,000 jobs in Britain’s shipyards.

The long-delayed announcement, however, stopped short of awarding a £4bn manufacturing contract for the 65,000-tonne vessels, although that is expected to follow by the end of June.
