Sir, Based on our work with the police on organisational and leadership issues, I believe Boris Johnson, London mayor, and Jacqui Smith, home secretary, now have some challenging decisions to make following Sir Ian Blair’s resignation as Metropolitan Police commissioner. How they exercise their authority will have implications for policing that reach well beyond London.
