Wal-Mart boosted by cost-cutting shoppers

Wal-Mart saw its sales boosted by increasingly frugal shoppers during its first quarter as the world’s largest retailer reaped greater efficiencies from management efforts to transform its US business.

The retailer, whose shares have risen 25 per cent over the past six months, said it had seen its first increase in customer traffic “for a very long time”.
