Cheaply priced medicines could become more widely available in the European Union if a preliminary legal opinion, issued on Tuesday, is upheld by Europe’s top court.

But the opinion could make drug companies wary of supplying new products to certain low-price markets for fear they would be re-exported to more profitable countries, lawyers warned.
