Taiwan stock market slides

Taiwan’s stock market ignored an attempt by its government to boost sentiment on Thursday, highlighting the fact that Taipei can do little to stem downward pressure driven by global factors.

The Taiex slid 3.19 per cent to its lowest close for more than two years, despite the cabinet’s decision to halve the securities transaction tax rate to 0.15 per cent for six months.
