Consumers hunt for discounts and take fewer trips to the mall

Lisa Rogers has always lived frugally. A former nurse, now living on a disability pension, her shopping expeditions in Kearny, New Jersey, are shaped by the discount coupons she collects from the weekly papers.

She is a member of two discount warehouse clubs, Costco and BJs, but only shops there when she knows of "something that's really on sale".
