NZ foreign minister steps down

Winston Peters has stood down as New Zealand’s foreign minister while the country’s Serious Fraud Office investigates fraud allegations connected to political donations made to the party he leads.

The SFO’s probe will focus on claims at least two donations made to Mr Peters’ New Zealand First party were not used for their intended purpose. “[There is] reason to suspect that an investigation may reveal serious and complex fraud,” the SFO said.
