Standard Life hails majority in vote to float

Standard Life, Europe's largest mutual life assurer, on Wednesday hailed an overwhelming vote by its policyholders in favour of demutualisation as a "truly emphatic mandate for change".

Demutualisation of the Edinburgh-based institution was backed by 98 per cent of the 1.6m policyholders who voted – a turnout of more than 65 per cent.
