Capital Radio and GWR Group, the two radio groups whose merger is to be completed in May, announced that the name for the new group would be GCap Media.

Capital Radio shareholders will be asked to approve the name at an EGM expected to be held next month.

Rather than hire branding specialists, staff at the two companies came up with the name.

Ralph Bernard, executive chairman of GWR, said: "The name GCap Media retains elements of both the Capital Radio and GWR brands and reflects the important contribution both businesses will make to the merged group." Emiko Terazono
