Egyptian police began imposing some order on Friday on the vast, tumultuous open-air bazaar that has sprung up among the rubble and twisted metal that once marked the southern border of Gaza.

They blocked some of the gaps blasted into the barrier by militants earlier this week and warned the crowds that the border would be closed completely by the end of the day.
