Christie's board member Patricia Barbizet was among those forced to abandon her Eurostar trip to London ahead of a planned board meeting.
The Paris-based chief executive of Artemis, the family holding company built by French billionaire Francois Pinault , was approaching the tunnel on Eurostar when Thursday's blaze halted her train.
After an hour's delay, she returned to Paris. "That's life," philosophised Mrs Barbizet, who also has board roles at Air France, Gucci, Yves Saint-Laurent and Château Latour. The fire did not, fortunately, force the cancellation of the Christie's meeting, which proceeded by video link.
Whether the fate of the Damien Hirst dead animals series that is part of rival Sotheby's big art sale on Monday night in London was discussed, we can't say.
