For England’s sports fans, June brings an annual outbreak of twitchiness. At least the England football team spared the nation’s nerves by failing to qualify for Euro 2008 but news from the cricket and rugby pitches has been mixed, to say the least – and then, of course, there is Wimbledon: years of nailbiting hope that this might be Tim Henman’s turn now replaced by edgy enthusiasm for the British, but also emphatically Scottish, Andy Murray.
