BG Group said that it was still in talks with Origin Energy over its proposed £6.2bn bid but the discussions had so far been “inconclusive”.

Origin has this week been talking up its valuation, telling investors its gas reserves could be much bigger than previous estimates and it expects strong upward pressure on gas prices in eastern Australia.
