Scottish manager relishes global/local dynamic

Willie Watt’s office sits beside Edinburgh Castle. But the chief executive of Martin Currie, one of the most historic names in Scottish fund management, insists his company’s location is no barrier to building an international equities business.

“There are benefits to being slightly outside of the herd,” he says. “Particularly in the first quarter [of this year], there was a huge amount of panic and hysteria around, and I think being here was helpful.
