Asia starts new quarter on brighter note

Asian share markets on Tuesday tracked mild gains in New York overnight on the back of a smaller-than-expected fall in US business confidence.

Shares of exporters across the region led gains. Semiconductor companies in particular rallied on optimism that they can negotiate increases in memory chip prices of up to 20 per cent with PC makers.
