Lamy confident of trade deal this year

Pascal Lamy, the director-general of the World Trade Organisation, insisted at the weekend that the politics were right to achieve a global trade deal this year.

In what has become an annual ritual at the World Economic Forum in Davos, trade ministers from around the world said that 2008 was the last window of opportunity before a deal in the long-running Doha round of trade negotiations would become impossible.
