John McCain and his campaign staff spent Thursday attacking The New York Times after the paper ran a page-one article raising questions about the Arizona senator’s relationship with an attractive lobbyist.

The McCain team accused the Times of an election-year smear, which is exactly the response that any sensible candidate for the US presidency would give. But Observer wonders if the McCain team isn’t cheering just a bit.
