Huawei seeks external strategic investor

Huawei Technologies is looking to sell a stake in its handset and mobile devices division to an external strategic investor, according to people familiar with the company’s plans.

Huawei’s decision to court foreign investors comes less than two months after it was forced to abandon its planned purchase of a 16.5 per cent stake in 3Com, the US computer networking company, after the transaction encountered opposition in Washington on national security grounds.
