The Theatre Royal is on a bit of a roll. Its irresistible staging of The Harder They Come moves into the West End later this month and now comes this exuberant comedy by Rikki Beadle-Blair. You might expect a play that deals with teenage pregnancy, absent fathers and family breakdown to be a gloomy event, but this one is a riot from start to finish. It lacks subtlety, but it makes up for its flaws with sheer theatrical zest.
Beadle-Blair has written for this theatre before and he knows just how to reach the audience: his comic timing and snappy dialogue soon have audience members calling out advice to the perplexed characters on stage, and the comedy almost becomes a debate on the perils of parenting.
