High risk gets higher returns

US mutual funds with performance fees take more risks than their peers, but turn in higher performance, according to a research report from Lipper.

Funds charging performance fees have, on average, outperformed other funds in their respective Lipper classifications over the past 10 years. However, they have also taken on a slightly larger amount of risk.
