Consigliere to the Thomson family

As the symbol of the new information giant, Thomson Reuters, flashed across their terminals last week, a few traders may have paused to reflect that the tools they use to keep score in the market economy are controlled by family businesses.

Bloomberg is still owned by its founder and the force behind the newly merged Thomson Reuters is one of a few business dynasties to have escaped the “from clogs to clogs in three generations” dictum.
