Competition inquiry to reprieve supermarkets

Leading supermarkets and their critics were on a collision course last night, amid signs that a key competition probe published today will be far less radical than the industry's opponents want.

Andrew Simms, author of Tescopoly, a critique of the supermarket's power, said he had a "horrible feeling of Groundhog Day" about the likely modest impact of the third big inquiry into the industry in seven years.
