Liffe’s derivative volumes at record

Derivatives volumes surged to record levels on Liffe, Europe’s second biggest futures exchange, as traders scrambled to exploit volatility or hedge themselves against market turbulence.

Exchange-traded volumes on Liffe rose 25 per cent to 565m contracts in the first half of 2008 compared with the same period last year.
