HK to introduce competition law

Hong Kong’s government said on Tuesday it would introduce legislation to set up a competition law and establish an independent commission to investigate anti-competitive practices in an effort to bring its policies into line with global practices.

The former British colony is one of the few advanced economies that does not have a competition law. It has for years been criticised for allowing sectors such as electricity, property and supermarkets to be dominated by a few tycoons.
