Banks and chip shares spur Asia

Asian stocks rallied on Friday as a batch of encouraging US data and Wall Street’s rise overnight provided some cheer to the end of the week.

Banking and semiconductor stocks led gains across the region, while Japanese exporters enjoyed an additional boost from a weaker yen.
