Herefordshire rejects school closure plans

The most controversial of all the plans for rural schools closures was on Friday thrown out when Herefordshire Council rejected its officers’ scheme for a mass cull.

The council barred any re-organisation of secondary schools before 2011, and decided to revert to its old policy on primaries, which can only be shut if they fall below 36 pupils. This will mean the closure of one or two schools at most, instead of the proposed 20.
