Barclays looks at balance sheet options

Barclays refused to rule out raising fresh capital to strengthen its balance sheet as Britain’s third-largest bank admitted profits had suffered from the market turmoil in March.

Marcus Agius, Barclays’ chairman, said on Thursday the bank had several options to boost its capital reserves. These include managing its balance sheet, tapping external shareholders, or using retained profits from the business.
