Where monetary value isn’t in doubt

From Dr Michael Creagh.

Sir, T. Allos, J. Garcha and V. Jones of Notre Dame Senior School are on to something (Letters, February 9).

As a doctor practising in both the NHS and the private sector I have long observed that patients frequently do not attend mutually agreed consultations in the public sector but very rarely default in the private sector. In the former sector my work is delivered “free at the point of delivery” and patients have no idea of the monetary value. In the latter sector patients have no doubt. I send them an invoice.
