Taiwan airline’s ‘survival’ warning

China Airlines must radically cut costs and generate new income to avert losses that could threaten its survival, the new chairman of Taiwan’s national carrier said on Thursday.

The remarks by Philip Wei, who returned from retirement on Thursday to re-assume the helm of the Taiwanese carrier, underline the industry’s growing pains in the face of soaring fuel costs and an uncertain market outlook.
