Sony on Tuesday launched a movie download service for its PlayStation 3 and boosted the console’s capacity as it sought to keep pace with rival Microsoft.

Sony said it had signed up the major studios to its service, which would provide both standard and high-definition movies and TV shows for rent or to purchase.
