Tax-based fee for late filing draws fire

Taxpayers who are late filing returns or paying their bills could face tax-geared penalties under controversial proposals put forward by Revenue & Customs.

Penalties for late filing might kick in after six months, potentially rising to 100 per cent of the tax bill after a year in cases where taxpayers had deliberately failed to file returns.
