World Bank appointment set to boost Beijing ties

The World Bank is to appoint a Chinese economist to a senior position in a move that will buttress the institution's ties with Beijing and lift the profile of developing countries.

Lin Yifu, also known as Justin Lin, is expected to be appointed as the organisation's chief economist, according to bank officials quoted in agency and newspaper reports.
