Rio Tinto looks at floating US coal arm

Rio Tinto, the mining group, is considering floating its North American coal business, part of its drive to sell $15bn (£7.7bn) of non-core assets.

Rio has put a range of mining and metals businesses up for sale to help pay off debt incurred by last year’s $38bn takeover of Alcan, the Canadian aluminium group.
