De-equitisation, re-equitisation – a crucial issue for strategists

The era of equity shrinkage, we are told, is over. Farewell share buy-backs, hello rights issues. De-equitisation is dead, long live re-equitisation.

There is, in fact, little evidence for this, with the obvious and lamentable exception of the banks. But the idea that corporations could use more permanent capital at this stage in the game has much to be said for it.
