MPs ask for reappraisal of census

MPs on Thursday called on the government to “improve the population count as a matter of urgency” as they published a report questioning the future of the 10-yearly population census.

Sir Michael Fallon MP, chairman of the Commons Treasury select committee, which produced the findings, said “democracy is dependent on accurate, independent statistics” yet “it is now impossible to estimate accurately the UK population.”
