The crew of Oman Sail won the inaugural Oman Air Arabian Extreme 40 Challenge at Port Sultan al Qaboos, Muscat, taking the overall title after triumphing there and in an earlier three-day regatta in Dubai.
Four Extreme 40 catamarans were in the Middle East to race in a competition that may launch a regular racing circuit for this exciting class in the Middle East.
Oman Sail were able to continue to dominate the fleet using their local knowledge and strong teamwork, leaving iShares in second place, Oman Air third and TeamAqua fourth.
Oman Sail skipper Pete Cumming said: “Its been great to be racing on our home waters here in Muscat. Seeing these futuristic boats racing in such incredible surroundings, around the traditional dhows was fantastic.
French multihull star Karine Fauconnier, skipper of TeamAqua, said: “The Oman Air Arabian Extreme 40 Challenge has been a great series to race in. Dubai and Muscat couldn’t be two more different locations – you certainly don’t get any sailing like this at this time of year in Europe.”
