Getty“Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow” was the chorus booming around Madison Square Garden, New York, when Bill Clinton stepped forward to accept the Democratic party’s nomination for the presidency in 1992. Fleetwood Mac’s hit “Don’t Stop” was the perfect anthem for the first “baby boomer” president. Clinton even persuaded the band to reform and perform the song at his inaugural ball in 1993.

The right song can do wonders for a political campaign. In 1997, Tony Blair’s New Labour adopted D:Ream’s “Things Can Only Get Better”. Its brain-dead, druggy optimism seemed to catch the spirit of the times.
