Netflix, the US film rental service, on Thursday announced a partnership with LG Electronics, the South Korean electronics maker, to deliver films to customers over the internet using a set-top box.

The device, which is expected to be launched in the second half of this year, comes as Netflix is facing fierce competition from a plethora of technology and media companies attempting to deliver high-quality video online.
