Tax changes generate red tape

Businesses will face a double dose of red tape as a result of the government’s decision this week to offset scrapping the 10p tax rate with a £600 increase in the individual tax allowance.

Tax rates and allowances announced for 2008/09 were due to be applied for all pay dates from May 18. However, this uprating exercise will now have to be repeated in September, accountants warn.
