A fall in property prices that kicks away the ladder

So it finally happens: house prices are falling. Although no one wants to see anyone suffering from negative equity, there are many who will welcome improved affordability. Falling prices appear to be good news for those who have seen prices move beyond what they can afford.

But appearances are deceptive. There are four ways in which house prices can fall. Two increase affordability, and two do not. Current price falls will not increase affordability.
