Housebuilders’ woes deepen on volume fall

Last week, when confidential industry figures showed that new-house sales slumped by two-thirds in the second half of March, senior industry executives either questioned the data or pointed to a temporary blip.

That optimism was confounded on Tuesday as Bovis unveiled an even deeper slump over a much longer time period, having sold only 120 homes since it reported its full-year results in early March.
