Why watching football requires brains

The boffins in government have confirmed what the nation long suspected: understanding football’s notoriously complex offside rule takes graduate-level reading skills.

The research from the Learning and Skills Council finds that, by contrast, mastering the rules of cricket requires no more than GCSE-level education – despite its reputation as a game that is hard to grasp.
