PM urged to reconnect with south

Gordon Brown was warned by a cabinet colleague on Thursday that Labour was losing touch with important southern voters, as a new opinion poll gave the party its lowest rating since records began in the 1930s.

John Denham, skills minister, said voters were “confused about what we stand for” and urged the prime minister to reconnect with aspirant southern workers who helped propel New Labour to victory in the 1997 election.
